Are 3rd party lenses any good? 2008/03/13 21:19 Karma: 0
I've seen a lot of posts of people buying Nikon 'prime' lenses for their Letus. I'm about to order a Letus Extreme for my new Sony EX1, but I'm researching lenses. Are Nikons the best or would even something like a Tamron be suitable instead of the Nikon? I'm thinking HD resolution is still way, way lower in resolution than 1920x1080, which my camcorder has, so is the absolute best and most expensive glass really necessary, or is more of a status thing when hooking up to the Letus? I realize the fastest lens is a good idea, but the brand, sharpness, etc? For example, would a 300 new Tamron, like this one: http://www.tamron.com/lenses/prod/17_35mm.asp be a good choice new? Thanks for any advice.

Although there's a lot of talk about Nikon, I have 2 beautiful Canon FL lenses that I scored on eBay at bargain-basement prices. Both pristine and the quality of the older Japanese manufacturing is amazing! Bigger grips than my FD and much smoother operation. Just a pleasure to use. I'm watching for more!

Most 35 slr glass will handle the resolution. But Nikons MF lenses are very well built mechanicly. Look at the Nikons at www.rplens.com / they're all set up for DoF adapters.

What Sensor says is true. The build quality and preciseness of focus (not to mention the optics!)of the Nikon AI and AI-s lenses is the best for any serious user. Why have a great camera with an adpter to make great footage and then use a secondtier lens. For more info and to get the evry best Nikon MF lenses around I like www.KEH or www.Lenses35.com

We made all out Indies with Nikons from lenses35
