Sure thing. On my website www.frozenphoenixproductions.com "Allergy Season" was shot entirely on the Brevis. Most outside shots were at about f5.6 to f8. There are a few shots at f11, one most prominent during a dolly shot of two people sitting on a picnic table. Also the shot where they are changing the tire (it is only about a 4 second shot) is at f11. Most of these were shot using a Canon FD 55mm f1.2 or 35mm f2. A few were even shot with a 35-105 f3.5 zoom.

Sorry to make you watch the whole thing/shuttle through it but that's all I have right now.

I use the CF1L diffuser...I had some footage testing the bokeh properties on some far-away light sources from a parking garage at night and was able to stop down to f8 without grain.

I should also mention that I have a variable oscillation potentiometer installed on my Brevis, so I do increase the vibration intensity depending on what my lighting conditions/lens selections are.

Okay, I must have misread your post, I thought you were talking about the Letus
The impossible just takes longer

Cool, thanks for explaining further Ben. Makes sense now changing the vibration speed. When I stop down over f5 I have to start shaking the letus to get rid of the grain

Can anyone recommend some good Nikon zoom lenses?

See my selection at lenses35.com. All are tested and selected to be the very best for the Letus. Big selection and recomendations from 24mm thru 135mm primes plus some long zooms.

Hi, I has a lot of lenses for my letus ex, but one of the best is a Tokina 80-200 2.8 ATX Nikon mount, is really fast and work perfect with letus. http://www.gecoproducciones.cl/letus35%20extreme.htm

so do I get an EF, RF, FD, or AI?

Please excuse my ignorance... I am new to using photographic lenses.

What is the difference between EF, RF, FD and AI? I've also seen AIS. Any input would be much appreciated.

AI, AIS and EF are Nikon's mount for Manual focus (MF); FD is for Canon's mount Manual Focus; RF I don't know.

Best thing is to go to www.lenses35.com as they sell the lenses needed for the letus35 (or any other cinema lens adapter)
They explain the lenses you need and why.

lenses35 is fine, but if you want to learn about nice lenses go to: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/fdlenses/index.htm
the when you find the lenses that you like go to ebay and buy, some lenses are really hard to find and they are expensive, but remember never buy a lens with less light than 2.8 in all range if is a zoom. www.gecoproducciones.cl

PLEASE beware eBay and PayPal. I paid $215 for a Nikon 28mm AI-s described as "great with absolutely no issue. Been in a collection all its life" from a eBay seller "todco***" and when it came it had a stiff jammed focus and was full of oil. I was refused a refund and when I demanded one I was threatened that eBay would be told that I wanted to cancel order because I had found a cheaper one. I attempted to claim from PayPal on their buyer protection scheme and all they said was it was a two sided dispute and they could not get involved! A pro dealer like KEH, B&H or Lenses35 has a reputation and they will take back anything no reason just to be nice. So BEWARE!

My 4 favorite lenses with EOS mount are:

1: Canon 35mm 1.4--this lens is legendary. It is the perfect environmental portrait lens with my full frame SLR camera and on the Letus, is a bit less wide (cropping from the 35mm 3x2 changes the look) With in camera zooming, it really can double as a 50mm 1.4 as well.

2: Canon 16-35mm 2.8 mk2 -- This is my most used lens. It's boken is very good and handles highlights very well for a zoom.

3: Canon 200mm f2.8 mk1 -- This is very nice and quite affordable. I also have the Canon 70-200 2.8 Image Stabilization lens, but the 200mm prime handles much better on the Letus with rods and it's focus ring dampening is perfect. Most importantly, it can handle serious backlight without much flare. Most Zooms don't do this well.

4: Canon 300mm f4 -- much like the 200 above. It is sharp and handles backlight very well.

Lense I love but can't use:

Canon 85mm f1.2 mk2 -- this is the best lens I own and has enabled me to produce images that other photographers can't. It is my favorite. Ironically, it needs power from the lens mount to allow the focusing ring to turn. So it is unusable on my Letus35. Huge bummer. I've considering creating my own franken-mount from an old Canon camera just to get power out the mount for this lens alone.

Lens that is OK but not ideal:

Canon 24-70 2.8. It is a great lens and great range for the Letus, but it is a varifocal design which means the focus plan changes if you zoom. This is a problem for push/pull work since the focus ring must be turned and marked simultaneously. It works fine for lock-down focal lengths, however and I love the look of the f2.8 boken. It is much prettier than I had on a 24-105 f4 lens earlier this year.
Sony EX1 and LetusExtreme with Canon EF lenses. HV30 backup. Lenses: (Canon EF) 16-35mm II 2.8, 24-70mm 2.8, 35mm 1.4, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.2, 100mm 2.8 macro, 70-200mm 2.8 IS, 200mm 2.8, 300mm f4, 1.4x extender. My favorite with the letus: 35mm 1.4.Canon EOS1ds mk2. 40d

I assume you are setting the aperture on a canon EF body? Is there a device out there yet that allows you to change aperture on an EF lens while on the Letus?

Thanks.

Forgive my ignorance, but is the Nikon AI mount compatible with the AI-S series lenses?
