I see that F1.8 Nikon AF 85mm's are much more common
to find used than AI/AIS versions.

Can you use AF lenses on the Extreme? If so are their limitations?
Thanks guys

This is my question too. Since the Af lenses have the focus ring, isn't it possible to use it, just like the ai/ais?

I have a few Nikon AF lenses and they work fine. However, the focus ring on a few of the AF lenses is somewhat lacking. For example, the Nikon 85mm f/1.8D feels rough and gritty.

Using a decent follow focus greatly increased the focus precision on all my lenses. Also, it smoothed out my loose focus ring on my Nikon 24mm f/2.0 AIS lens. Hope this helps.

The AF lenses do work, but not well. They are light duty and focus in manual mode is not good enough for follow-focus or pro work. That's why the AI's are getting rare and expensive but they are worth the money. Used they are still cheap compared to new, less than a third generally.
