I'm worried about hv20+cavision+letus extreme combo. Being hv20 shorter than a1, wouldn't that knob get into letus way? Can it be take out? I don't know if you get me, maybe with this picture...

There should still be enough clearance on the HV20 so it shouldn't be a problem. You'll have a step ring on there yet too which will give you more spacing. You can also flip that bracket around I believe. I don't have it here with me but will check when I get back.

"You can also flip that bracket around I believe". Perfect, that's what I wanted to know. Besides, you are right with step-up rings. In fact, I had to buy 4 of them to get 43-72.

Thanks and regards

Is it necessary to purchase these rods to use the Letus35 Extreme, or will the adapter hold up the lenses without a problem?

The Letus35 Extreme, being milled from solid aluminum, weighs 3 pounds and that is without a lens. It is HIGHLY recommended that you use a rods support system to take this weight off of your camera's filter threads.

That being said, I have used the Extreme on my Canon XH-A1 without the supports attached. I would not recommend this though. I was only doing it briefly for some testing. I was not comfortable with that much weight hanging on the threads.

Those Cavision rods are nice if you need a simple solution without needing a bunch of accessories like a matte box or follow focus. Another option are the new IndiRails from Tim over at IndiFocus.com.

Keep an eye on this site for other solutions available soon. You can also join our newsletter for official announcements.

Ah good advice here i see.

Anyone any experience with a DVX100+ Letus Extreme + Matte-box?

Just ordered the Extreme and this is what I have in mind:

DVX100 with some nice old Nikon glass + Matte box

Cavision rods are too short for this I guess, especially if I put on the funky 180MM crazy lens.

Because of shipping (I'm in Europe) i was hoping to find a all in one vendor that has a nice matte-box and rod system suitable for the DVX+Letus. The DVX will hopefully be replaced by a XDCam EX in a few months, HD here we come. And already shooting HD with a HVX200 on occassion.

The other worry is off course balance, with so much heavy glass on the front something like the Indi rods or cavision will be completely unbalanced. Are there alternatives with perhaps a sliding bottom?

Sorry new to this, my only experience in this field is with Ikegami's and other broadcast hotties with big alu rods and heavy duty matte-boxes I would never buy for myself But that was fixed stuff from a rental.

Post edited by: Visualbrother, at: 2007/10/15 19:57

Visualbrother, I bought 2 Extreme adapters (not yet delivered), 2 new HD canon XH-A1 cameras, 2 sets of 18" rod systems, 2 sets of pro Jumbo Matte Box with Rod bracket for rod support, 2 sets of FollowFocusPro gear (from Indifocus) and a lot of other accessories. So my expectations of the Extreme are going extreme at this point.

I haven't set up anything since I only received a set of about 10 Canon FD lenses I purchased. I will definitely update everyone (and request for help too) on how everything works out.

VisualBrother, I also bought the rods and matte boxes from a company based in India but that does business in the UK with EXCELLENT international shipping services (thecinecity.com). Today I received my 2 sets of rod systems from them in a week. And I'm in the US.

thanks for the info, my main worry now is balance. I can't find any rod system (perhaps except the redrock one?) that will balance the letus + glass and mattebox. Pretty sure with the low weight of my DVX100 it i going to be hard to balance this. From the looks of things the tripod probably needs to be connected somewhere underneath the letus itself to be in balance and able to shift when switching between lets say a tiny 50MM or a large 180MM heavy one.

Just theorising, anyone got any practical experience?

It would be nice to know what the Extreme's measurments are, that way we could all at least get some accessories that'll get us close.
