Travel Documentary suggestion. 2008/06/17 11:22 Karma: 0
*just got my Extreme. Still waiting for Nikon lens from Adorama (very slow with order processing).

I'm having a hard time deciding on the frame rate. 30p or 24p cinema mode on the HV30.
I want to have as much as film look as possible.

I'm doing a small (equipment) with a big budget documentary/travel video of Central Asia.
I need to tape mountains, trees, people, etc. 70% sceneries, and nature. 30% people.

going light as much as possible.
equipment
1. Canon HV30 (won't have to worry about storage), Sony EX1 (backup only, probably will never use it.)
2. Steadycam baby
3. 28mm Nikon, 50mm w/macro Sigma Nikon mount, 180mm Tamaron Nikon mount (still deciding if I should buy it since I have my 50mm already.)
4. Velbon 607 tripod, light and smoothest of them all (cheap but better than my other Lexus tripods!)

Post:
1. Mac pro Quad Core
2. FCP 6 (latest) or Premiere (latest)
3. MB looks

End product: regular DVD ntsc/pal Thai-Laos-Cambodia (almost all Tv's and dvd players can do both system, tested and proved). Future master will be in Blu-ray.
Will air on FTA satellite system.

I'm having a hard time deciding on the frame rate. 30p or 24p cinema mode on the HV30.

thankyou very much in advance.

If you want a film look then go with 24p...I don't shoot any other frame rate unless I have to and that's usually at the request of a paying client
The impossible just takes longer

Keep in mind that shooting 24p requires different technique than shooting 60i video. Camera moves have to be much slower (or really fast) to avoid the inherent stutter of the slower frame rate. 30p is good option if you're not familiar with using film techniques. It gives you a kind of hybrid video/film look. Also keep in mind the broadcast requirements and how you will convert to that format/framerate.
