Sony A1 and Letus Mini 2008/02/17 19:55 Karma: 0
Hi all,

I am waiting for my Letus Mini to arrive. Meanwhile i have been searching for clips shot using the Sony HVR A1 and the Letus mini but with little success.

Does anyone have this combination? Clips to share and comments? I am curious why there are so few clips shot using this combination. Something wrong with it?

Clive

I'm using the Letus35 Mini on a Sony HC-1 which is almost the same as a Sony A1. Here are links for two brief clips.

Here's a link to a pic of my rig.

Thanks Herbie. I am new to videography but was very impressed with what the adapter can provide. Especially the shallow DOF. How do you like this combination?

Have you had any problems with your Nikon mount? I understand that some Letus Extreme users experience a minor play with lenses on. Have you notice anything similar?

Being a Zer,ooo budget filmmaker, like many of us out there, I spent much of my time at first comparing my footage to well funded projects. I could see what they were getting but I didn't understand how to get there. I came across the Letus35 adapter and realized I could get a great look with my humble equipment so I decided to buy one. I'm very happy that I did.

I have not had any problems with the Nikon mount having play in it. There are two things going on with my Mini that seem to be more of an adjust issue. One, my infinity on my lenses are not in focus, so the lens mount needs to be adjusted, I haven't done it yet. Secondly, my camera doesn't seem to align to center on the mirrors. It aligns a bit to the right. I have used the rails to help stabilize this and bring it more to center but have not gotten it to exact center. I also had bought the rails because it all seemed to heavy on the filter threads.

One other big thing is my actual shooting technique, I'm trying to think film. I recently spoke to a consultant about this. He filed in many gaps in my understanding of how to get that "film-look". I spoke to Steven Dempsey from Pine Lake Films. It was a great experience and sure to help my upcoming project.

I have just received my Letus mini and now understand what you mean on not being able to achieve focus on infinity.

How do you focus by adjusting the lense mount?

I have not attempted to make the adjustment because I just turn the focus back a small bit an I get sharp focus. Yes, I believe that you have adjust the lens mount. I think there is a HOWTO somewhere about that. Does anyone know where it is?

Your rig looks very sturdy. Change tapes must be something of a challenge? It does appear that lifting the camera body from the rod mount would be a convoluted affair.

I have the HC1/A1 spacer from Cavision. It works great. It's between the camera and the rail mount.
